The Happenings

The Happenings is the official newsletter of The Great Outdoors Community Services Association (CSA).  Published every two weeks on Friday, new issues are ready to pick up in the afternoon at various locations around the community. The online version is posted when available.

Any person or group wishing to submit an article or an ad may do so at the CSA Office by completing a form.  The deadline for submission of an article or ad is 5:00 PM on the Friday before the following Friday's publication.

For those of you who are in the resort, you can pick up the current issue of The Happenings in the gray box by the bulletin board outside the Plantation Manor, at the CSA Mail Center, Oak Cove Pool, and at the main CSA Office.

Instead of picking up a printed copy, you can simply read it electronically, the current and previous issues are available on this website at The Happenings link with even more features than the printed copy and in color!

If you are traveling and you want to put something in the newsletter, send an e-mail to happenings@tgocsa.org.

Another issue full of TGO Stuffery. We celebrated Independence Day with our annual Golf Tournament, which drew over 60 players. The TGO Summer Show is back - check page 14 for the details. We sat down with Lauren Clark to find out a bit more about her background and how she likes being the BOD Chairperson. You also get to find out more about Lucas - the landscaper, Edwin - the Golf Barn guy and Carolyn - the bartender at the Blue Heron.

Karri Conover pens a great review of her tour of the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse. You can also learn about the Woodpeckers in TGO. Did you know that Hamilton Disston was the largest private landowner in the United States? Hamilton WHO??

This is the last issue in June. We switch to one issue a month for July and August, so look for the next issue of The Happening on Friday, July 17. This issue should provide plenty of reading; we start out with a great interview with Sammy "the Singing DJ," and he has a great story to tell. We also introduce you to Jon Lyerly, TGO's Maintenance Manager - plus a recap of a drainage project he is managing down by hole #10. Meghan explains the principles of fitness "FITTE," there is also an article about the Amazing Human Body. All the regular stuff is in here including an introduction to "Bowlby," one of Blue Heron's new cooks. Summer is officially here, so stay cool, have a fun time, and we will catch you in July.

So Much To Read... and this issue is full of great information:
Ron Wagner updates us on the Pavilion renovation's progress. Dragonflies start appearing in TGO during June and July—here's your chance to learn about them. Our American Flag Recycle Box is working well. If you have ever been bitten by a Yellow Fly, you'll love the article on page 14. What is that structure Elon is building on the other side of the Indian River? Yes, it's warm enough to start drinking Rumballas. If you're a man, Meghan provides some informative health advice. And while reading this issue online, try out our NEW interactive Word Search game. There's more - way more... so open this issue and enjoy!

Kiss the month of May goodbye... here comes June - and judging by this issue's cover, this place has gone to the birds!

Here's your chance to brush up on your ornithology skills. We've made it easy for you by providing a photo guide to all our feathered friends - at least the ones that hang around our lakes. Make a game of it: hop in your golf cart, drive around and cross off the ones you find. Also... a special thanks to Robin Francis for providing her great photos.

Oh yeah - June 1 is the start of Hurricane season (like you needed another reminder). This issue's Firewise article provides great tips we should all review - just to be ready.

If you haven't been to the Blue Heron lately, you need to go! The food is great— it's like a whole new restaurant. And when you do, make sure to ask Savana if she wants to arm wrestle.

There's more... a lot more - just start reading!
