The Happenings

The Happenings is the official newsletter of The Great Outdoors Community Services Association (CSA).  Published every two weeks on Friday, new issues are ready to pick up in the afternoon at various locations around the community. The online version is posted when available.

Any person or group wishing to submit an article or an ad may do so at the CSA Office by completing a form.  The deadline for submission of an article or ad is 5:00 PM on the Friday before the following Friday's publication.

For those of you who are in the resort, you can pick up the current issue of The Happenings in the gray box by the bulletin board outside the Plantation Manor, at the CSA Mail Center, Oak Cove Pool, and at the main CSA Office.

Instead of picking up a printed copy, you can simply read it electronically, the current and previous issues are available on this website at The Happenings link with even more features than the printed copy and in color!

If you are traveling and you want to put something in the newsletter, send an e-mail to happenings@tgocsa.org.

Been to the Blue Heron lately? If not, you should make plans to go. Stop in, meet restaurant manager Aaron Hoffman, and try his new menu. We did, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality, improved service, and learning more about Aaron’s background.

This is a great issue for learning about our local critters. You’ll find a great feature on bats, learn to understand our alligators better, and prepare yourself for Gopher Tortoise Day. We’ve also included golf tips from Garret, photos from the St. Paddy’s Golf Tournament and the Variety Show, along with a great recipe for a cucumber martini.

Welcome to this issue of The Happenings! We hope you enjoy meeting Ed Shea, a wonderful man and longtime member of the TGO community. Ed is also responsible for organizing the annual car show held here each spring - 41 cars were in attendance and on display this year, for our TGO residents to admire.

Also in this issue, the Mad Hatters held their bi-annual Tea Party, Firewise provides Part 2 of its evacuation advice, Sammy explains Murphy's Law, Meghan teaches us how to read those 'Nutrition Facts' labels, and we take a Midway Airboat Ride.

Our next issue comes out April 3, so enjoy April Fool’s Day without us!

Well… that groundhog was partially right - we did have four more weeks of winter weather - but now it looks like good ol’ Florida weather is back with us… and so is the next issue of The Happenings.

If you have never met Tim Emerson, you will get to in this issue - what a great guy working on a great cause. There are some photos from the Can-Am Golf Tournament and the ALS Walk, and a great photo of a dog holding a shovel. Sammy's article is pretty funny - and true - so don’t miss it. Plus you will find all the other gallimaufry that makes The Happenings worth the read.

Catch you in two weeks!

Here it is, the last issue for February. Lots of good stuff in this one… The Grondins, and their dog Faith, grace the cover - and well deserving as they are driving force behind TGO's annual ALS Walk. Catch their story on page 30. Our Recreational Manager, Meghan Johnson provides some tips on how to be healthier - page 54. Find out what a Boo-Boo Doll is on page 34 and if you didn’t make the Coach Club Block Party, there are some photos on page 56 that will show you what you missed. The usual nonsense stuff is still in this issue as always. Bring on March and hopefully some warmer weather!
