RV Holding Tank Info

The Great Outdoors Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) can be harmed by certain RV holding tank chemicals that kill the beneficial bacteria necessary for the WWTP to function. If this happens, the wastewater must be pumped out and hauled away by truck; a very expensive process.

RV holding tank treatments that are harmful to the WWTP contain one or more of the following chemicals: Bronopol, Dowacil, Formaldehyde, Gluteraldehyde, Paraformaldehyde, and Para-dichlorobenzene.

If your RV holding tank contains any of these chemicals, use the official dump station near the Rally Lot, not your home sewer system to empty the tank.

Recommended eco-friendly RV holding tank products include the following: RV Pro 200 (by Heartland Labs), Pure Power (by OP Products), Piranha (by Super Seal), Eco-Save (by ECO-SAVE Products), or other products that use enzymes and bacteria as their main ingredients.

A flyer with more detailed information about the harmful chemicals is available by clicking on the link below. Thanks for your cooperation to help protect our valuable Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Information concerning chemicals.
  • To also be added to the flyer is most importantly antifreeze. Many RV-ers add antifreeze to their tanks to avoid freezing.
  • This is also a hazardous material to our Wastewater Plant.
  • Please flush those tanks thoroughly before hooking up to the Great Outdoors Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • The dump station in the rally lot is where these additives can safely be drained.
  • It is also suggested to avoid using antifreeze and just have the lines blown out to remove any
  • moisture that may cause freezing or jet cleaned when needed.
